SisterSerpents was founded in 1989 by a group of women who, after a conversation one night, decided they wanted to take action against what they viewed as an oppressive patriarchical society. They were angry! Adopting militant and aggressive language, SisterSerpents drafted a manifesto that articulated their cause. (Click images to enlarge.)

They announed their presence to the world (or at least Chicago) by posting fliers in public spaces. The fliers expressed outrage and a refusal to tolerate misogyny. This flier exemplifies SisterSerpents' unique use of humor and anger to convey thier message. First, it parodies views of traditional women at a tea, going mad with rage and then switches to an aggressive tone and warns men to "Watch that Crotch!"
